Surfing the Basque Country - Galerna

The design of this garment is inspired by the galerna, it is a sudden and violent storm with strong gusts of wind from the west to the northwest that usually hits some areas of the Cantabrian Sea and the Basque provinces of Vizcaya and Guipuzcoa, usually in the hottest days of summer. Its name comes from the French “galerne” and from the Breton “gwalarn”, a word that designates this north-westerly wind.

Uxue is an artist, illustrator and graphic designer from the Basque Country. She has always been very creative and has felt the need to express herself through different techniques.  

Her inspiration is born in the everyday, in the different moments and events of her daily life, in the wonderful people around her, in a sunset she has seen in some corner of the world, in a photograph, in what she feels and reflects, in a beautiful print or in her dreams and aspirations.
