The Ellis Ericson Lite Kite is a hand-shaped, performance-focused surfboard. Each board is meticulously hot-wired from the blank, giving Ellis full control over the rocker and overall shape, resulting in a precision feel that’s immediately noticeable under the arm. This hands-on approach ensures that every curve and contour is perfectly dialed, delivering a board that feels alive and responsive from the first session.
At 5'11 x 20 x 2 1/2, this Lite Kite model introduces a more pulled-in outline for increased responsiveness and connection to the water. Its heavily contoured nose, parabolic panels, and central concave create a unique “Rail Vee” design, offering a perfect balance between trim speed and rail maneuverability.
Wanting to go further? Now is your time to pick up a board that allows you to make the next step.
Every aspect of the Ericson Lite Kite emphasizes control, precision, and versatility. From the domed “S Deck” for paddleability and leverage, to the hidden lift under the back foot enhancing turns, Ellis has crafted a board that blends his years of edge-focused surfboard experience with modern performance innovations. Perfect for surfers seeking a lively, surfable board with refined handling, this handcrafted Lite Kite delivers a unique and exhilarating ride for any wave type.
Ellis Ericson is an Australian shaper from Byron Bay (1989). He made a name for himself after a long stay in Indonesia, where he developed a whole range of shapes (single fins, fish, and mid-lengths). Inspired by Australian shapers of the 1970s, such as his father Bruce Ericson, Michael Peterson, and Bob McTavish, Ellis offers alternative designs that perfectly combine tradition and performance.
When he met Andrew Kidman, a director and documentary filmmaker specializing in surfing, they became deeply interested in the work of George Greenough, pioneer of the “Edge” design, a radical concept based on sculpted edges to optimize speed and grip. Originally designed for windsurfing, Ellis was convinced that this concept could be adapted to surfing. This marked the beginning of a long process of research and testing with Kidman, which resulted in a film and a book: On the Edge of a Dream. In them, they document their immersion in the world of Edge boards and trace the project over several years.
Today, Ellis Ericson continues to perfect his Edge boards, which he presents in precise and functional shapes. Each board he designs is conceived as a unique piece, a high-performance and aesthetically pleasing product. His vision of surfing is based on experimentation, respect for his roots, and a constant desire to explore new sensations.
All Ellis Ericson surfboards are hand-shaped on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales, Australia. Each board is crafted with a combination of traditional shaping techniques and hot-wiring, without the use of computers or machines, ensuring a unique, high-quality finish. The batch he made for Pukas Surf Shop is shaped in Australia and finished in Europe.
Ellis Ericson boards are fully hand-shaped and hot-wired, giving precise control over rocker, contour, and volume distribution. This meticulous process creates a responsive, surfable feel that is unique to each board, delivering performance and precision in all conditions.
Yes! While many of Ellis Ericson’s designs are performance-focused, boards like the Lite Kite are highly versatile, performing well in everything from mellow beach breaks to more powerful reef and point waves. The combination of rail design, concaves, and quad fins ensures speed, control, and maneuverability across different conditions.
Ellis Ericson surfboards come in a variety of shapes and sizes, each designed for different performance goals. Beginners and intermediate surfers may prefer boards with more volume for stability, while advanced surfers often opt for performance-focused shapes like the Lite Kite or Edge-Board models for maximum responsiveness and control in all conditions. Consulting with the team can help you select the ideal board for your skill level and wave preferences.
