FANTASTIC ACID | FISH HULL

A hull for first-timers.

This design has changed a lot in the past few years. Tristan, as an ever evolving artist who never stops learning and refining his work kept modifying this shape until a few months back. The last modification he made on his Fish Hull were the fins. He just changed the template just 1 or 2 months ago, after surfing the board. "I noticed that the tail of the board itself already holds a lot and that the fins don't have to be as big as I initially designed them. So I made them smaller".

The FISH HULL

It's a board designed to work great in small to mid-sized waves. If you're looking for an alternative "summer-wave" board like no other, then this should be your go to. The way the board and it's tail are built provides a lot of manouverability. While the Rounded Hull for example, asks for long and open lines, this one wants you to keep it short. In your turns and cutbacks you can really push into the back of the board to draw some close and snappy lines along the wave.

"It's more of a "back-foot" board. Not as the Rounded Hull that has a more central stance and more attention on the front foot."

Let's talk about the fin game.

The fins are really raked to provide an extra bit of speed when you come out of the turns. "You really feel the speed out of the turn and with the flex of the fin it works like some kind of engine."

"I have then grinded the single fin and worked on a design of twin fins. In the pursuit of my research with the Parlementia Hull fin, I have reused the same kind of outline but smaller and gave it more rake and so, way more flex. Tried it the day after on a clean and uncrowded Lafitenia. I could feel on the first wave as it was it!"

The deep swallow tail works as the board had two tails. The idea is driven on using the concept of the Mirandon Brothers, with having “two tails” instead of a regular swallow tail. That will provide an efficient planing surface on the rear foot part, without spinning out. The two “baby round tail” will provide more hold and more pivot. Each “tail” get a single concave to give more hold and a slight lift. Evolving to a full belly. Those two tails which are extremely flex, will act as a Flextail to help the low tail rocker to be variable. "I don't see it as a classic Fish, it's more like a two tail from the Speed Hull."

The Fish Hull is a more versatile and user-friendly Hull for people who aren't yet familiar with surfing these type of boards. You still get that feeling of a Hull on the front foot but there is a spiral V on the tail between the fins which helps to lift the tail to get that pop with the back foot.
