2011: The Rise of a Teen Sensation
At just seventeen, Kolohe Andino was already making waves in the surf world. After dominating the amateur ranks, he tore through domestic WOS events, quickly setting his sights on WCT qualification. He earned it fast, reaching multiple finals in international 6* and 10* competitions. A teenager on the verge of global stardom, carrying the weight of major contracts and high expectations, Kolohe was ready to take on the world. But first came a dream surf trip to the still-uncrowded Mentawais, a playground for some of the world’s best, and an opportunity to ride waves with a star-studded crew.
On that trip, a friend was invited along. “Hey, my dad’s coming. You should too!”
They began building a quiver. Dino, Kolohe’s father, took charge: “You’re going to need air boards, competition boards, a few reliable wave boards… a step-up and some backups.” Everything was high-performance, competition-grade, built to prepare for battle. But Kolohe, despite his professional experience, was still a kid who wanted fun as much as performance.
He requested a board that would let him rip while keeping the session playful. “Make me a tiny board that can handle proper waves,” he said. “Fits in the barrel, but goes really fast. Short and wide, with a tail for serious surf… and speed!”
In that simple request lay the essence of Kolohe: a young phenom chasing pure fun in the waves, even as the world expected him to perform at the highest level. It was from moments like this that the spirit of the Lost Mini Driver was born, a board designed to rip, fly, and deliver a thrilling ride in every wave.
The DRIVER was already the team’s premiere competition model, the go-to for Kolohe and other riders. Starting with a wider-than-average Round Pin DRIVER, the shaping process began: a few inches were taken off the nose, the tip re-pulled and flipped, giving birth to the very first MINI-DRIVER. It was sprayed highlighter yellow to glow in the tube, fitted with five fin boxes, and glassed light for maximum performance.
Under the ever-watchful eyes of Dad, team managers, media crews, and multiple filmers, Kolohe kept things strictly business, sticking to his comp-style boards. But one afternoon, at an unnamed, slabbing right-hand barrel, the moment arrived. Paddling out on the MINI-DRIVER for the first time, he repeatedly threaded deep blue-water barrels, laid precise hacks, and boosted airs on exit, again and again, until the ultra-bright, ultra-light board finally gave way.
Back on the boat, exhilarated and wide-eyed, Kolohe summed it up: “This thing is insane! In everything! Make a model!”
And just like that, the MINI-DRIVER was born. A board designed to perform, innovate, and push the limits of what a single all-round performance shortboard could do.
Wanting to go further? Now is your time to pick up a board that allows you to make the next step.
Over the years, it became a staple of the Lost line-up, and in surf line-ups around the world. Hardcore surfers from every corner, including Mason Ho, sang its praises, and countless rippers continue to order custom versions to this day. As new models rolled out relentlessly, the MINI-DRIVER gradually shifted to a by-request model for repeat riders, quietly stepping out of the spotlight, but its reputation never faded.
What the MINI-DRIVER really is:
Short, wide, and playful, it offers plenty of planing area, a lower entry rocker, and soft, forgiving rails, perfect for average waves and effortless speed. At the same time, its foiled, rounded pin tail, modest rocker, and balanced nose allow it to lock into power pockets and hold when pushed hard in punchy, solid surf. It’s a more performance-focused evolution of the Quiver Killer.
Where the Quiver Killer was developed for surfers coming from alternative or hybrid boards, seeking a versatile daily driver, the MINI-DRIVER was shaped for those who ride high-performance shortboards. It’s designed to excel across a wide variety of conditions, blending speed, control, and responsiveness into a ridiculously effective, all-around performance surfboard.
The MINI-DRIVER is like an ATV for the waves, an all-terrain surfboard built with a high-performance mindset. It thrives in small, punchy beach breaks, handles head-high and larger point breaks with ease, and excels on just about any size reef.
While the classic curves of the MINI-DRIVER have been faithfully preserved, subtle refinements have been made. The rails and foil have been fine-tuned, and the size range updated to match modern preferences, but at its core, it’s still the same serious little mean machine capable of taking on almost anything the ocean throws at it. It continues to turn heads when sprayed bright, though maybe don’t go as light on the glassing as Kolohe did, the board performs best when it’s built tough.

The Lost Mini Driver is a high-performance shortboard for surfers who want a versatile, fast, and responsive ride in a variety of waves. Its compact outline and refined rocker make it ideal for carving, generating speed, and maintaining control in both punchy and average surf conditions. This board blends the performance of a modern shortboard with playful responsiveness, making it a favourite among advanced surfers looking for precision and drive in their quiver.
The Mini Driver performs best as a 5-fin setup, allowing surfers to experiment with either a thruster or quad configuration depending on the wave and style. For FCS II , the recommended fins are the Matt Biolos PCC five fins set up for precision, stiffness, and energy transfer. For Futures boxes, the Mayhem 3.0 RTM Combo fins deliver stability, drive, and control in critical sections. Both setups enhance speed, responsiveness, and maneuverability while keeping the board lively and versatile worldwide.
The Lost Mini Driver shares some performance DNA with the Quiver Killer, but it’s more compact and playful. While the Quiver Killer excels in generating drive and smooth projection in small to medium waves, the Mini Driver is slightly more aggressive underfoot, offering quicker turns and a snappier release off the tail. Many surfers keep both in their quiver: the Quiver Killer for flowy, drawn-out lines, and the Mini Driver when speed, pocket surfing, and sharper maneuvers are the priority.
Yes! The Lost Mini Driver surfboard can be tailored to your specific needs using Pukas Surf Shop’s custom board builder. You can adjust length, width, volume, and even tail shape to match your weight, surfing style, and the waves you ride most often. This ensures you get the perfect Lost Mini Driver that feels dialed for your quiver while keeping its high‑performance design and responsive feel intact.
