WHO'S TOM MORAT?
Tom Morat is a French-Australian surfer and surfboard shaper whose life has unfolded between New Caledonia, Noosa, California, and the southwest coast of France, where he runs a surfboard factory. He is considered to be leading the next generation of young surfer/shapers.
He grew up surfing reef passes in New Caledonia before moving to Noosa as a teenager. He started shaping with his dad at a young age, then gained skills while working under Thomas at Thomas Surfboards. His California endeavors linked him to Ryan Burch and Joel Tudor, surfing heavyweights he now calls both mentors and friends.
Today he shapes under his own identity (DICE PROPAGANDA), splits his time between France and other shaping hubs, and is regarded as a detail-obsessed board builder whose work blends classic surfboard sensibilities with modern performance tuning.
At 26, shaper and surfer Tom Morat submitted his Solid 40 design to Stab’s 2026 Electric Acid Surfboard Test (EAST).
“It's like a bit of a step-up twin plus trailer shortboard” says Tom. Relatively narrow in the tail, wide point up, double concave. “I actually made that board for a picky client. He kind of wanted a step-up, but then he was showing me a bunch of grovelers and I wasn't too sure where to go with it. So I just whipped up that outline and I wasn't even really too sure what it was made for at first.”
Wanting to go further? Now is your time to pick up a board that allows you to make the next step.
That board was given back to Tom and he surfed it a lot. Tom ended up loving the board and he found that it actually kind of groveled good for like how long it is. It was a Solid 40 shaped at 6'1 x 18 7/8 x 2 1/2.
But then he took it to Mundaka “and it fucking held up pretty good” according to Tom. It's got a big V to a double concave on it, so it holds good rail to rail on bigger surf. Suits a good range of waves depending on obviously the dimensions you get. It's meant to be for a bit of everything.
The whole board was designed as a 2+1. The whole tail, the way it comes in, and yeah, just the fin placement especially. If someone tries it as a thruster, don’t expect much; the board would feel pretty, pretty sticky. Watch Stab’s EAST featuring Harry Bryant for a better understanding.
Tom’s choice? His True Ames signature fins “Dice Twin + Trailer”, also known as the Third Wheel. You can get them here.
Red 40 Stock Dimensions

The Dice Hotline RED 40 is Tom Morat’s 2+1 performance design submitted to Stab’s 2026 Electric Acid Surfboard Test (EAST). Tom describes it as a cross between a step-up twin plus trailer and a shortboard, combining paddle-friendly versatility with control when the waves get more serious.
The RED 40 is designed to handle a surprisingly broad range of surf. Despite its longer, relatively narrow outline, Tom found that it could grovel well in smaller conditions while still holding confidently in powerful waves at Mundaka. Its pronounced V into double concave helps provide rail-to-rail control when the surf gets bigger.
The RED 40 was designed specifically around a 2+1 twin plus trailer setup, including the tail shape and fin positioning. Tom Morat recommends his True Ames Dice Twin + Trailer, also known as the Third Wheel. A traditional thruster setup isn't recommended, as it can make the board feel noticeably sticky.
Yes. The design was originally known as the RED3, but Tom Morat has since renamed the model RED 40. It is the design he submitted to the 2026 Stab Electric Acid Surfboard Test, where it appears as part of Tom Morat and Dice Hotline’s EAST entry.
