· XERO HYFI, FEEL A QUANTUM LEAP ON PERFORMANCE ·
Joel Parkinson ripping with the JS Xero
JS only commits with a new surfboard model if there is an obvious quantum leap in performance and that's the case with the Xero. The Xero comes in HYFI epoxy technology, which is JS Industries unique multi-layer epoxy construction.
"Think of it as a futuristic exoskeleton for a surfboard that allows it to be lighter and stronger than ever before, while still maintaining the ideal spring-loaded flex for maximum performance."–JS Industries Surfboards
JS Industries has taken everything learnt the past 5 years, since it was first released, to improve each aspect of it: performance, flex, speed, materials used and manufacturing processes.
The Xero is the "new gold standard of all-rounders". It gather a mix of element of the most popular JS models, like the Monsta Box. This is how JS Industries summarizes it:
"JS focussed on the strengths of our three clear global favourites over the past decade, and tested combinations along with fresh ideas endlessly alongside the Traktor Team to find the ultimate everyday shortboard. Built to blow minds in all conditions – especially weaker, flatter faced waves.Where did we land? On the Blak Box rocker, Monsta Box rail & concaves, with a Monsta outline."–JS Industries.
The result of this fusion is an incredibly fast board with a rocker that fits into a huge range of waves, providing even more drive than the Monsta Box.
· Rocker | The rocker is also flat enough to fly in anything but has just enough curve to be pushed hard when combined with the Monsta’s clean, performance outline, which flows into a slight hip that provides intuitive, instant direction changes. The rocker has been proven over time to be the most versatile in the x-series. | |
· Concave | Plus, similar to the Monsta Box, its single concave under front foot runs into a double through the fins to give you extra lift yet maintain control in more critical sections. |
· Waves | From 0-4 ft.This board is quite versatile and feels great in many conditions from crumbly, flatter wave faces to good quality surf.
· Riding the Xero | The recommendation from JS Industries is to ride the same dimensions as your Monsta Box 2020, or in EasyRider dims, closer to your Blak Box 3.
· WHAT IS HYFI TECHNOLOGY ·
As we were saying in a previous paragraph, the Xero comes in HYFI epoxy technology, which is JS Industries unique multi-layer epoxy construction.
"Think of it as a futuristic exoskeleton for a surfboard that allows it to be lighter and stronger than ever before, while still maintaining the ideal spring-loaded flex for maximum performance."–JS Industries Surfboards
A big step from HYFI to the next level of HYFI 2.0 technology comes by developing precision engineered stringers, or pins, which are scaled specifically for each board.
Depending on the dimensions of the NYFI, the size of the pin adapts to it and therefore, to the weight of its intended rider. The shape of each board’s pin perfectly reflects JS Industries goal of making the stiffest part of the board at the centre, tapering out to each end. The result of doing so is an even better flex pattern that helps you load and explode into turns.
The balance of strength has also evolved:
"Whereas the top and bottom were the same in the original HYFI, HYFI 2.0 construction features a stronger deck. It’s been tested by surfers of all sizes, in every type of wave, resulting in a technology that’s been carefully tuned and adjusted for each set of dimensions we build."–JS Industries.
· A BIT OF LOVE FOR MY HYFI BOARD ·
The HIFY technology demands a bit of tender love, both in and out of the water! Yes, you may be thinking that they are much stronger and more durable than a normal PU surfboard, but have in mind that they are not built to last forever and, therefore, they are not indestructible.
Good practices to take care of your HYFI and other epoxy surfboards:
- Don't leave it in the sun. No surfboard deals well with a lot of excess heat. Putting it inside a board bad is no solution either since it can become an oven if left in the sun!
- Ensure any minor dings are fixed with epoxy resin.
Take care of these couple of things and the life spam of your HYFI and epoxy boards will be large to enjoy!
