· HUMBLE, SKILLED, RIPS & SHAPES: MARK RICHARDS, A PIONEER ·
Mark Richards (MR) needs no introduction since he is a legend, surfing royalty even some may say. His name has left its mark in the history of surfing.
The world of surfing experienced a revolution between 1978 and 1982: the unbeatable surfer that would ride his own surfboards and made the twin fin his own. Why surf with one fin, when two are way better? Not only did he shape his own surfboards but he also adapted his two fin design to the waves of the world. He name is history not only for achieving 4 consecutive World Titles but also for being a pioneer in the surfing world with his twin-fin designs.

You may ask yourself how did he come up with the idea of using two fins when the stablished surfboard design at the time was a single fin. It was a simple idea really. An idea that made history and still is one of the preferred fin combinations by surfers all over the world.
MR saw his surfing ideas way ahead of the equipment that he had. His performance aspirations were beyond to what he had could offer. Frustrated with the, in a way, clunky and restrictive single fin boards of the time, he was determined to come up with a board that would allow him to access more critical parts of the wave, perform a higher repetition of acute turns, and ultimately unlock his full potential. Indeed he did.
· THE RETRO TWIN, MR'S FAVOURITE ·
This design is the most popular retro model and a faithful recreation of MR's favourite twin fin which was a magic contest board. It was 6'2" x 20 x 2 1/4.
MR shaped the original in May 1980 for the professional events in South Africa in June, where he won the Gunston 500, and the Hang Ten International on it. This is the original outline template with a lot of forward area, which makes it a dream to paddle. It also maintains the classic wing-swallow tail shape which reduces the tail area to give the board holding power through turns. It's nice deep V bottom gets the board flowing from rail to rail. Pure bliss to ride one of these!
