Why Proper Surfboard Storage Matters
Taking in account the importance of the correct storage and care of surfboards we wanted to share some tips for Storing and Caring for Your Surfboard Correctly.
Keeping your surfboard safe and in perfect conditions is something to always keep in mind and prioritize. If we want to minimize the risk of dents or similar types of damage, we have to be extra careful when thinking about storing them.
Properly storing your surfboard is necessary for maintaining its structural integrity and preventing damage. Storage practices for surfboards will help you preserve the performance and longevity of your surfboard. Here are some tips for proper surfboard storage:
1: Choose the Right Location
How to select an appropriate location for your surfboard? Consider the following factors when choosing a suitable storage space:
A.Temperature
High temperatures and surfboards don’t do well, avoid storing them in locations that get high temperatures often. Having the board exposed to heat a while is not a problem (we are talking normal heat, at a car for example). But constantly exposing it and storing it at hight temperatures may en up damaging the board.
B.Protection from Sunlight
Even if you don’t believe it, direct sunlight and surfboards do not match. Avoid leaving them exposed to direct and constant sunlight. This could cause a change of the colors of the board and damage of the glass of the board.
C.Space
Ensure that you have enough room to store your surfboard without any unnecessary pressure or contact with other objects. That will make additional scratches or dings avoidable.
2: Utilize Proper Board Racks or Stands
Investing in high-quality board racks or surfboard stands is essential for safe and organized surfboard storage. Here's how you can make the most of these surfboard storage solutions:
A. Wall-Mounted surfboard Racks
Wall-mounted surfboard racks are a popular choice as they provide stability and save space. Look for racks specifically designed for surfboards, ensuring they offer proper support and space to prevent any damage. Do not miss our Pukas Wood Surfboard Rack!
The reason behind the Pukas Wall Surfboard Rack is no different from any other ventures in our history: we could not find a simple, versatile and easy to assemble wooden rack, that was made sustainably with local wood as the ones we were used to construct for ourselves for our local stores.
We give a lot of value to locally produced products and we put lots of effort in partnering with companies that share similar values. Astigarraga Kit Line, a local company with a clear commitment to circular economy. The wood used to manufacture Pukas Rack with Astigarraga Kit Line comes from forests in Gipuzkoa and Bizkaia, in the Basque Country. The pine wood that we have been working with at Astigarraga Kit Line has always come from sustainably managed forests. That is why you will see the PEFC certified since 2005 in our packaging too.
HOW TO MAKE IT WORK FOR YOUR QUIVER
The Pukas Rack fits any kind of surfboards that make your quiver special. This rack will facilitate its storage, accessibility and display of that special quiver of yours, even if you only have one surfboard but are planning to add more in the future.
So how should I ensamble the Pukas Rack to fit my quiver? Just follow the measurements that we provide in the following lines and images.
· VERTICAL DISPLAY · SHORTBOARDS | The rack should be assemble and located between 1.20 and 1.50 meters from the floor. As you see in the picture, we installed our rack at 1.40 meters for 5,4” to 6’10 boards or even guns!
· VERTICAL DISPLAY · LONGBOARDS | However, if you are thinking about a rack for a longboard quiver, the Pukas Rack is perfect for 9’ longboards and above. You only need to install the rack at approximately 2.40 meters from the floor as you can see in the picture. The result is dope!
· HORIZONTAL DISPLAY | The horizontal display is our favourite if you have a garage or a space where your surfboards won’t fit because of the height. If you have space on the wall, it is ideal to display your surfboards horizontally.
This horizontal display is also a great option for the Pukas Rack to assemble. For those who don't have a high room but do have big boards, this one is a no brainer.
B. Freestanding surfboard Racks
Freestanding surfboard racks are a great option too if you prefer flexibility in positioning your surfboard. These racks can be moved around, allowing you to optimize your surfboard storage space.
3: Clean and Dry Your Surfboard
Clean and dry your surfboard properly. Saltwater, sand, and dirt can gradually erode your surfboard's materials if left unattended. Here's a step-by-step guide to cleaning and drying your surfboard:
1. Rinse with freshwater
2. Use mild soap for surfboards
3. Rinse your surfboard again
4. Dry your surfboard
